Cell cultivation
Why you should automatize cell cultivation?
In researching (bio)pharmaceutical industry and medicine product development cell cultures are used often. Nowadays cell cultures are inevitable while searching for new active substances and working principles for new pharmaceuticals because due to accordingly modern analyses (e.g., BRET, etc.) statements about the biological effectiveness, the mechanisms behind and often already at the same time toxicological aspects can be made. Through this, search for active substances can be considerably accelerated and one can renounce part of the time- and cost-intensive bioassays, specifically animal testing. Standardised cell culture procedures are an absolute must and inevitable, as only they allow for a comparison of the substances and their active principles for long periods of time.
A manual cell cultivation has many disadvantages:
- bad reproducibility (human factor)
- low scalability (personnel expenditure)
- high staff cost
- monotonous working steps
- dependence on normal working hours or shift work / weekend standby crew
An optical control of the cell cultures usually takes place only irregularly (at normal working hours) as well as only subjectively and it is difficult to guarantee a compliant documentation. But even if this control takes place it is always subjective and harvesting at roughly the same confluency is only guaranteed if the suitable employee has a high level of experience and a lot of routine. Furthermore the cell cultures are taken throughout these manual steps out of the incubator and this can have effects on cell behaviour and therefore test results are falsified! Changes of temperature, humidity and pH which are provoked through this for sure have an influence on the cell culture and, in addition, are depending on the used cell line.
The production of cell cultures in a standardised automatic process offers a wide potential for you:
Integration of biological procedures in an automated environment gives you the possibility to react faster, more effective and better to the requirements of your customers.
Besides, cell cultures can be produced in higher yields, with better quality and comparability than with manual cultivations, and risks of contamination are strongly reduced.
Automated cell cultivation enables you to have the production comply with cGMP ((current) Good Manufacturing Practice) and cGLP (current Good Laboratory Practice) by means of documentation of all critical steps in an understandable and reliable, legally correct way.
We support you with all steps of such an automation project.
